Amazon.com Product Description

Building on its award-winning 2009 Plasma line, Panasonic's 50-inch VIERA TC-P50G25 Plasma HDTV features a new panel with NeoPDP technologies that provide the best balance of black and white under brighter environments while also offering higher energy efficiency. The new NeoPDP Plasma panel also further reduces reflections and creates sharper pictures with higher contrast in brighter environments. This G25 series model provides 1080p resolution, full-time 1080 TV lines of moving picture resolution, and 600Hz Sub-field Drive for superb motion clarity.

This and other models in the G25 line offer Panasonic's improved VIERA Cast functionality, which enables you to stream Internet video and audio programming as well as turn this HDTV into a high-definition, wireless video conference center with Skype capabilities (when using the optional Panasonic communication camera and Wi-Fi adapter accessories). You can also play back JPEG images and AVCHD videos stored on SD memory cards and operate a variety of VIERA Link components--from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras--through a single remote.

Adhering to Panasonic's commitment to the environment, this VIERA model--as well as all 2010 models--features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements. And you'll get a long Plasma panel life of up to 100,000 hours--more than 30 years of viewing when watched 8 hours a day--before the brightness of the panel decreases to half.

Key Features

Panasonic's VIERA G25 series Plasma HDTV with streaming content from VIERA Cast partners.

VIERA Cast: Enjoy a variety of streaming movies, TV shows, and music, photo slideshows, and home video conferencing with VIERA Cast's assortment of online content--including Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix, Pandora, Twitter, YouTube, and Picasa. VIERA Cast's addition of Skype (requires optional communication camera; model TY-CC10) enables you to connect and communicate through voice and video calls from the comfort of your own living room.

This VIERA HDTV includes two USB ports for connecting a keyboard or a Wi-FI LAN adapter (sold separately) as well as an Ethernet port for wired LAN connection. No PC required.

VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos and AVCHD videos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display, and choose from among five types of background music and five display effects. Plus, messages and memos can be added to photos from a PC to create detailed travelogues and original slideshows with messages.

VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration).

Game Mode: With Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.

NeoPDP: By redesigning the Plasma panel's cell structure and developing an innovative new filter, Panasonic has tripled the luminous efficiency (compared to 2007 models) of its VIERA Plasma HDTVS--resulting in stunningly beautiful images while also reducing power consumption.

1080 Moving Picture Resolution: With 1080 lines of moving picture resolution and integrated NeoPDP technology's high-speed drive performance, the display time for each image frame is shortened to minimize afterimages, making decisive calls in football matches and delicate motions in figure skating performances appear crystal clear.

600Hz Sub-field Drive: 600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology, which converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects (see an illustration of 600Hz technology).

Infinite Black: The luminous efficiency of this NeoPDP Plasma panel has been improved by reducing the electrical pre-discharge that causes graying has greatly enhanced black gradation. The result is crisp blacks with no graying--even in living rooms with bright, afternoon lighting. And minimizing the electrical pre-discharge helps to both raise contrast and save energy.

THX Certified Display: THX reproduces film images as the filmmakers intended them. To receive THX certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Great quality at a great price.
When ordering a television set, I first decided that I wanted a great picture before any other attribute. The next two factors were cost and size. I wanted to spend reasonable amount of money while not sacrificing image quality or size. I believe I git a home run with this plasma. A like-size and quality LCD or LED display would cost much more and the general consensus amongst videophiles is that plasma actually offers a better and more natural picture. Plus, 50" is quite huge in my living room. This television will not disappoint. My entire family is impressed with the Netflix streaming through VIERA Cast. I cannot describe how happy I am with this purchase. It is a great deal with the Skype camera too. If you want a great plasma display then look no further than the G25 series from Panasonic.

one of the best HDTV out there, but i would say the only one best considering value for money
I bought this TV from electronics expo under 1000$ incl. tax.
I did a lot of research going back and forth between LCD back-lit and edge-lit TVs and those with 120/240Hz refresh rates and thats when i happened to notice this TV and the reviews mentioning burn in protection and energy efficiency and picture quality of this plasma.

before buying one for me, i got a chance to go to best buy and get one of the 50" G20 series for my in-laws and got a chance to play with that in shop.
I had nothing else to worry about when i saw a good deal for the 50" G25 online after two weeks.

Is been only a week since i bought the TV, but my experience is very good about the picture quality since then.also I am not worried about the power consumption since i happened to see some of the you tube videos showing energy usage from full black to white levels on Panasonic plasma.

Netflix is there since the last software update to version 3.00 and is working like a charm.Regarding the youtube playback,i am not sure if it automatically selects the highest resolution video if multiple resolutions are available.I havn't tried playing media from USB or SD-card storage. Also i have read in some reviews/descriptions online that this TV is capable of recording content to USB storage device.I will update the review as and when i try that.

[...]

I had been seeing some reviews mentioning a buzz sound coming from the TV, and what i noticed is that i can hear that when the TV is running more bright screens, like if I set picture mode to 'vivid'.
I personally prefer cool display rather than a very bright one and for me the THX, movie, standard settings seems more appropriate for best viewing experience. Also i don't think the buzzing is a fault in hardware, since any high voltage AC device has the possibility of producing electrical buzzing or humming in the audible range.

I had been looking for and 'am yet to find a blu-ray player to go along with this tv, i saw some panasonic players a good pick, but i think i am paying for the same features that i have on this tv like viera cast.It would have been good if they had some latest model players with just the features one would need when using with this tv, or else .. ohh..yeh i can choose a PS3.. :)

Nice...but
I got the T.V. last night, I had visions of a perfect picture on every channel and I realize this has more to do with the cable company than with the T.V. but it should be known that my 15 year old rear projection has a much better picture than this T.V. has. The HD channels are awesome on the new one along with a couple others, but the bottom line is if I would have known the quality of non HD channels was going to be so much worse than the rear projection T.V. I might have waited a little longer. I was under the impression the picture quality would be "at least" as good as the best rear projection picture. I only bought a new T.V. cause the old one died so I don't feel to bad about my purchase. I think I would have been much more disappointed with a LCD judging by the in store diplays which are all in HD. In my opinion I would not "upgrade" just to keep up with the times. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a nice T.V, I have yet to try a DVD or watch a football game, but might just be 2010 challenged or picky. Just my 2 cents.

Netflix is now available!
Before I start let me just say this is my first Plasma TV purchase as I feared the Image Retention and Burn in problems of past plasma's. I have bought a new LCD TV almost at a rate of one a year (my wife hates my passion for a high quality tv) trying to find a TV that made me happy. None of which has clinched my happiness until I received this TV!

First lets just say this 50" tv is huge! I couldn't believe the difference in my 42 inch to this 50 inch. The colors on this TV are very lifelike and rich in color even on standard definition programming. The THX mode is just outstanding although if you search over at avs forums for some settings that might appeal to you more.

I was a little afraid of buying a plasma because my living room has a 10 foot long by 6 foot high bay window and I have track bar lighting for night time viewing. However the anti reflective screen is amazing. I barely see any glare unless i really look and it doesn't affect the beauty of the deep blacks and rich colors.

I use this TV mostly for sports, games via PS3 and Xbox 360, and watching blu-rays via PS3. First sports are just amazing, No more blur. It always drove me nuts the blur while watching anything fast on tv. I really noticed it while watching the Indy 500 this year on my 240 hz Vizio LCD set this year and thats when I first started looking for a new TV. So far with this TV I have watched an IRL race, a recorded NHL game in HD(go PENGUINS), Baseball, Nascar race, Preseason football and I have not noticed any blur at all and I have really been trying to find some to fault the TV some how.

PS3 and Xbox 360 games are like a whole new system on this monster TV. Its like upgrading from a regular playstation to a 360. The colors are richer, clearer. Gameplay is smooth and I don't notice any delay. Dark scenes in games are much easier to navigate through and so much nicer to look at.

Blurays I was a little worried about since I have read that this TV doesn't properly handle 1080p/24 playback. However I have not noticed any difference in blu ray playback and the quality is outstanding. Its like watching out a window when watching blu rays. The action is just right there in front of you and could not be any clearer.

Also the streaming of internet apps is great. Netflix just got released yesterday for those who have been waiting for it. Although I can stream netflix from my ps3 and xbox it is much easier for my wife to just have to push one button on the TV remote then trying to mess with my onkyo reciever and get the inputs right. You can also stream youtube videos, picassa, pandora music, Amazon VOD, Fox sports is coming soon and a couple of others I can't think of off hand.

The sound quality on this TV actually isn't too bad for a flat panel. It seems much richer and better than any of my three LCD's I have owned although as mentioned I play most of my sound thorough and Onkyo 7.1 home theater. The remote for the TV is big and offers nice big buttons for those who have big fingers. It also has a back light on the remote which is a nice touch.

All in all I am very happy with this purchase through Amazon. I am also willing to answer any questions that you might have about this TV and will do my best to answer to the best of my knowledge. Amazon got my TV to me using CEVA shipping in 5 days. It was not white glove delivery but the delivery man allowed me to inspect the TV and power on before signing which he understood and gave no problems.

The BEST out there
It ha been 3 weeks since I've had this set. I wish I had waited for 3 more weeks because the price has dropped $100+ since I bought it for $1128.00 I don't think there is any HDTV (both LCD or LED) out there that can match the picture quality of Panasonic plasma at this price or even double, triple the price. I watch all my TV channels in HD format unless not available. the picture quality is simply OUTSTANDING! there was too much buzz about the buzz sound coming out of the TV, I have yet to hear it. don't be fooled by what you see in store like Best Buy or any retailer. somehow they treat Panasonic like a stepchild and not give it a proper calibration while on display. bring this baby home and it will come to life with vibrant colors, clarity & no motion blur like the LCDS/LEDS. don't care about the sound or it heats up which is does if you stick you nose into the screen! I have tested different calibrations recommended by CNET & others but still not satisfied. I have yet to do my own calibration. for now I'm watching it in CUSTOM mode with these picture settings.
Contrast>72, Brightness>53, Color>43, Tint>negative 4, Sharpness>4, Color Temp>Cool1, Color Mgmt>On, xv color>Off, CATS>Off, Video NR>Weak, Blur Reduction>On. In PRO Settings all ZERO except Gamma>2.2.
In Advance Picture Setting, Block NR>Off, Mosquito NR>Off, Black level>Light, 3:2 Pull down>Auto.
For now these settings are not the best till I get a professional calibration DVD to do it, but looks good. I'm still trying to get the people faces on TV to look natural instead of the yellowish or pinkish looks. any suggestions out there? I'm not to much of a technical junkie so I've not ventured into Viera cast or other features it has. All I care about is the picture quality. My only gripe is you think Panasonic would throw in a Wireless LAN Adaptor for VIERA like Panasonic model DY-WL10, but no!
